Some of you may or may not remember this, but television used to be completely free. Commercials were shown so that advertising could pay for the television programs. Viewers did not pay anything after the purchase of the television set. Television stations received money from advertisers. Advertisers were happy that people were viewing their commercials. Everyone was happy.
